HWMBO, an electrical engineer by training, has been extremely excited during the past couple years because two of our grandchildren, the "Double Cs" who came with their father to visit Switzerland in the summer of 2010, have expressed significant interests in things technical. These interests have been evidenced by participation in their secondary school robotics club. In fact, this year, Son B, their father, has also been the team coach and principal advisor. Just as in athletics, there are competitions among robots, built by these prospective engineers.
The main competition in Maryland is sponsored by Maryland First Robotics. The 2012 Chesapeake Regional Robotics Competition was held in the early part of March at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Our grandchildren's team, the Robo-Lions with team-built Robot 2199, was part of the competition.
Their alliance was seeded eighth after the qualifications rounds. The team will now move on to the Queen City Regional Competition in Cincinnati, OH. For a YouTube video of highlights of Robot 2199's performance, please click here.
Proud Granddad HWMBO was there to witness the events, take photos and root wholeheartedly for all the budding technicians. While I wasn't able to be there first-hand, I've participated vicariously. I too have been very proud!
