Visiting Annecy

One of my favorite short excursions in the Geneva area is to visit Annecy.  Annecy is the capital of the French department of Haute-Savoie.  Its history and that of Geneva have been intertwined for centuries.  The area, together with Geneva, was generally a refuge for French Protestants (Huguenots).
Annecy is a beautiful city, perched on the edge of a small turquoise-colored lake - truly a beautiful sight in the sunlight.  Of course, sunlight has been at a premium these days, so we were happy to find any that we could.  We arrived late in the morning, barely in time to see the local Friday market stalls set up along the edges of the canal.
Because of its canals and waterfront, Annecy is often referred to as the "Venise de la Haute-Savoie."  I enjoy any excuse to go there.
We were just passing through, but stopped to have lunch at one of the cafes along the canal.
The dungeon is probably the most photographed-sight of the area.
We added a few more photos to the millions of others that have been taken of this very photogenic little city.  And then we continued along our way.

  1. Gee, you are doing the same tour twice in one week. I will look forward to seeing the grandkids posing at the usual photo spot. Hang in there.
